John Davies

John Davies Landscape is an exciting new design and project management studio with a fast growing reputation for creating beautiful and elegant garden spaces imbued with an atmosphere of peace and refinement.  The studio’s style is both architectural and contemporary with plants placed truly at the centre of each design. Water is often included and the results lift the spirit and inspire the soul.

John Davies graduated from the London College of Garden Design with a Distinction as well  as scooping up the Best in Year Award. Student awards for planting design and photography were soon replaced by The Society of Garden Designers’ much coveted Future Designer Award 2014. Success  quickly followed with a place as finalist for this year’s Society of Garden Designer  Awards  in the 30k category for a beautiful garden lauded for its combination of sleek contemporary line counter balanced with a robust planting scheme in a semi-natural style.

January 2016 has also brought recognition from the online platform houzz.co.uk in the form of a 2016 award for design excellence.

More significantly John Davies was invited to lecture to the Society of Garden Designers’ Autumn Conference 2015 at the National Geographic Society. The topic for the day was “Small but perfectly formed” and John spoke to  great acclaim on this subject using a landmark project recently  completed in Swiss Cottage to illustrate his lecture.

Armed with an MA in English Literature from Cambridge University and a Professional Diploma in Singing from the RNCM together with a significant career as an Opera singer, garden design might not seem to be the most obvious of bed fellows for a second career. However, for John , the world of music and more specifically opera have taught valuable lessons about rhythm, harmony, counterpoint and lyricism that apply in equal measure to the world of garden design. Moreover, an innate sense of spatial awareness and more generally theatricality gleaned from many performances of some of the world’s greatest operas, has more than amply equipped John for his latest role as garden designer.

Having burst on to the scene, John Davies Landscape is fast building a portolio of projects ranging from small scale domestic work to mid scale residential development.
